ACCEPTED!!

Andrew just opened his acceptance letter from the University of Wisconsin-Marathon campus!!!! YAY ANDREW!

When I handed him the envelope he just looked at me for a moment. Then said, “This can’t be it, I just sent in the application last week and C (his friend) sent his in months ago and hasn’t gotten anything yet.”

To his surprise, it was “the letter”.

I’m so proud of him! – I sure have smart boys!

Now… how about some pictures!

“He’s Too Smart”

Back in December PooWee had his 2 year check up. He doing very well, except he doesn’t say as many words as “they” would like him too. I knew this. I really wasn’t concerned, I figured he’s talk when he was ready. We have no problem communicating.

Dr. B asked if I would be open to a Birth to Three evaluation. It couldn’t hurt, so I agreed.

A teacher came over one day. She had a big bag of goodies. PooWee hopped right in and played” he games. He matched colors, shapes. He showed her what he puts on his feet, what he eats soup with and what he combs his hair with. He placed smaller cups inside of bigger ones. Perhaps his favorite was showing her she couldn’t trick him by hiding a ball under a cup.

Next a Speech Therapist came to visit with her goodie bag. PooWee knew right away she had fun stuff in that bag and sat right down to begin. He didn’t talk much for her. He showed her all his signs and mummbles a few syllables, but no recognizable words to the outside stranger. Sure those of us that see him daily know what he’s saying.

Well, yesterday the verdict came in. He does not qualify for Birth to Three language assistance because, “he is too smart.” He scored above average in all areas except for number of words spoken. When you add in his sign language he was average. In some areas he scared as high as a 4 year old.

I told them all that it was just as if he didn’t want to talk. You can almost see it in his eyes. Tell him to say, Boo, he looks at you and then just goes on about his business. He’s got some stubborness in him.

My PooWee doesn’t say enough words, but he’s as smart as they come! And we are so proud of him!

It’s Never to Late

Last week I was all excited. I finally thought of a post that would take me through the week. I worked on it every moment I could.

It wasn’t easy. My computer has the attitude of a rebel teenager. It needs some serious therapy. There are time I want to pick it up and toss it out the window. But then I’d have to buy a new wind. Not to mention quite cold out. We’ve been colder than Alaska! If it’s above zero it seems warm.)

ETA:One thing my computer will not allow me to do is post comments! I’ve tried EVERYTHING! I continually get an error screen. Which has actually ben happening for months.

So, just an FYI-I’m reading your blogs! I attempt now and then to comment, but it’s a never ending battle.

I do want to sent a comment to Coco now though! Coco-so sorry to hear about your mother! ((HUGS)) My thoughts and prayers are with you.

(Tried to link to you and it just is not going to happen! I guess I should be happy the computer hasn’t started on fire yet!)

Then there’s the everyday events that got in the way of finishing up.

1. I fell down the basement stairs. OUCH! I was in pain from my lower back to my neck. I laid around for three days.

2. Eli had an emergency visit to the eye doctor. At school he lost complete vision in both eyes for a moment. He teacher is very attentive to his expressions. She knows when he is having difficulty seeing. She noticed something was wrong and asked.

When his vision came back, he went on as normal. It didn’t really both him. I think his teacher and I were more worried than he was. His VI teacher had me contact the doctor right away.

He’s fine. I learnt that if you lose vision in both eyes it’s your brain not the eyes. Eli probably moved his head too fast or something. If it were to happen often then there would be a need to worry. Eli knows to inform us if it happens again.

This week has already been filled with two meetings at work.I really despise being at work on my day(s) off.

Eli’s yearly eye appointment. Eyes are doing well. They look healthy and his vision hasn’t changed. He still at 20/200 which make his doctor very happy.

He also had a visual field test. It informed us where his very blurry and total blind spots are. It was a very interesting test.

And now it’s Wed already. Time to get this place cleaned up, and laundry done.

I debated deleting the posts I started last week, but I just couldn’t.

So, today one and a half weeks later, I give you my posts on my boys’ artwork. There’s four posts total. Now I just have to post them in reverse order so they make sense.

Hope you enjoy their masterpieces as much as I do.

Artwork

I LOVE MY BOYS! They are the most important in my life. One particular thing I love about them is their creativity.

Their artwork can be found in every room in our home. I love looking at what they’re little hands use to do and what their bigger hands are now doing.

This week Elijah is at Art Cluster from 12:00 to 3:00 everyday. Art Cluster is a Gifted and Talented Program. Back in November he had to apply for it. He had a questionnaire to fill out asking him about his interest in art and why he should be chosen for the program.

I recall him writing that I frame his artwork and hang them up. He stated that I have a new bedroom that has some empty wall space and I could use some new pictures to hang up.

The Art Cluster theme is 2-Dimensional Puzzle Mural. He will be creating an individual section of a mural in the shape of a puzzle piece. All the puzzle pieces will be joined together to create a harmonious piece of artwork. The artwork will be on display at our local library in March.

There will be a reception in March as well. Which I’m still trying to get off of work for. Please cross your fingers, say a prayer, hope, and send good vibes that I get off!

Elijah’s Art Cluster gave me the idea of sharing my boys’ artwork with those of you that will probably would never get the chance to see it.

PooWee’s Artwork

Let’s start with the PooWee man. Because he’s only 2 I only have one painting so far. However he has a few coloring books full already.

His daddy is an artist.  Poo loves to color. My yearly calendar (I carry in my purse) is full of his artwork. It works so well to entertain him when I need him occupied. Such as waiting in line at the grocery store. I enjoy his lil pictures as I look to see whats going on for the week.

For Christmas I bought some finger paints and a canvas for him to make his first masterpiece as a present for his dad. He didn’t like the finger concept and went straight for the paint brush.

His picture turned out so cute. I kept it for myself. We’ve all done that right? Bought a present for someone, decided we liked it and got them a new present? I feel somewhat guilty, but I just had to have it. I went out and bought another canvas and PooWee made another fantastic picture for his daddy.

Here’s the picture I kept. Actually it’s the only picture at this time that decorates our walls that he made. There will be more… I can guarantee that.

Elijah’s Artwork

Artistic talents runs in Eli’s blood. His father is an amazing artist. His grandmother (father’s mom) is a known artist. She’s even had displays in New York Museums and across the country.

I try to assist Eli in bringing out his talent. He gets frustrated though. He can’t sketch in pencil because he can’t see it. Erasable pens are awful. It’s hard for him, he wants to make the correct “line” the first time. He has visual obstacles to overcome, but he can do it.

I’ll begin with the collages. Most of this work was done at daycare.

Elijah probably has the most art work displayed. He likes seeing his work displayed and would often ask me to frame them.

The top picture he drew when we came home from Disney. It’s a picture of a dolphin and fish. Look he loves me!

The bottom picture makes me smile every time I pause to look at it. A few years ago he ad an obsession with my nail polish. Over and over again he would ask me if he could paint with it. I’d often find drips of  polish on the bathroom floor, as he would hide in there and play with it. Finally, I broke down and this is what he created. After that, his obsession was full filled and never played with my nail polish again.

He made this castle at the Medieval camp he went to this summer. The homemade paper was also made there. Imagine how nervous I was driving 2 hours home with this in the trunk. All I could think of was it would get broke.

“The Stick” This big stick has been with us for about five years. I don’t remember the whole story behind it, but Andrew and Eli brought it in the house once. They wanted to save it. Well, since then it’s decorated our living room. There use to be two more butterflies and a caterpillar made out of an egg carton on it as well.

This artwork is special to Elijah. My sister K,  recently graduated with her Bachelors in Fine Art, worked with him on this. Together they etched the picture on a metal template. K then went and made some prints. Here is the final result. K framed the picture and gave it to him for Christmas this year. It now hangs above our couch.

Andrew’s Artwork

Andrew hasn’t been in art since his sophomore year. He drifted to the computer classes instead. It was a hard choice for him. He enjoyed art, but didn’t see it as a life long investment. He knew he wanted to work with computers so he choose the computer classes. I do miss his art.

2009_010501711

Andrew made this in second grade. It was in a student art fair that year as well. (I think it’s time I get a new frame.)

The following are Andrew’s art collages that I have made with poster frames.

I absolutely love the poem in this one. When Andrew showed me the poem, my heart melted.

You have to just adore Andrew’s “backward winged flying pig bank”. I remember laughing so hard as he tried to stick the now stuck penny into it. Him and I can still laugh to this day.

I still have some pictures in a drawer waiting to be framed.  His art will live forever.
